Ashford Borough Council is aiming to spend around £2 million to buy back up to 15 former council houses.
The authority’s cabinet voted in favour of releasing around £1.6 million, to be supported by a further £346,000 from the government’s Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), at its meeting last Thursday.
The money will be spent buying ex-council properties to be used as affordable housing.
ABC housing portfolio holder Cllr Aline Hicks (Con), pictured, said: “The buying back of predominantly old council stock delivers good value at current prices considering the excellent space standards and proximity to the rest of the council stock.
“We should take advantage of the current housing market conditions, before they change.”
