Troy Powell, from Ashford, hits out at catapult vandals who damaged his Jaguar car
00:01, 19 February 2017
A car owner says he is fed up after yobs armed with catapults smashed the windows of his “pride and joy”.
Troy Powell, 24, of Harper Road in South Ashford, had left his Jaguar parked near his home.
But a group of teenagers cycled past and fired stones with their catapults at his car, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
On Facebook Mr Powell, who is a car salesman, posted that it is not the first time it has happened, and said he felt “sick and tired” of finding damage to his car.
He appealed for anyone who knows who the youths are to come forward and tell the police, so that further damage can be stopped.
Mr Powell said: “I have reported it to the police, but they are not really doing anything about it.
“I’ve been told that I will need to get a new car door and window, which is not easy to get hold of.
“I have saved up for years to get this car.
“Everyone knows it’s my pride and joy, so for someone to do what they did is really irritating.”
The police have received other reports of a group of youngsters roaming around Ashford firing stones at cars.
Last summer there were a number of reports of youths targeting wildlife at Singleton Lake, which led to a dispersal order being imposed in the area to stop youths gathering.
Then in December we reported that a bus had to be abandoned after the windows were pelted with stones.
Police spokesman Martin Very said officers received the report of the damaged passenger window while the car was parked unattended between 8pm and 8.15pm last Thursday.
Anyone with information that can help is asked to call police on 01843 222289 and quote reference ZY/5317/17 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
