00:05, 25 February 2015

A couple looking for the rightful owners of post delivered to their home have succeeded, thanks to an appeal on KentOnline.

Karen and Jeremy Norman have lived at their home in Jemmett Road, South Ashford, since 1996, but every so often receive post addressed to another family, also called Norman.

An appeal by the couple to find the rightful owners was put on KentOnline this morning and within hours, the correct recipients were found.

Karen, a teacher, said: "We get post for a family called Norman.

“We think they must have had a baby recently.

“We’ve had a few birthday and Christmas cards before, but when the money and parcel arrived I thought we should try and find them.

“We also had someone knock on our door asking for a family with a new baby, so we think they live around here.

“I did walk up and down our road, knocking on doors, to see if anyone had had a new baby.”

One of the cards carried a ‘It’s a Boy’ message, and said inside: “To Harry, Faye and Albi, with love from John, Carolyn, Michael and Jamie. P.S Think Albi will look great in these.”

The card contained a £10 note and came with a parcel which had two babygrows in it.

A second card, for a Christening, also from John, Carolyn, Michael and Jamie, had £15 cash inside and said: “Please buy Taylor something good.”

Bernadette Jordan, mother to Taylor, contacted us to say one of the cards was for her son, and the other was for her brother Harry, his partner Faye and their son Albi.

In a strange twist, it turns out Bernadette and Harry’s parents, John and Penny Norman, also live in Jemmett Road.

Card sender Carolyn is John Norman’s sister, and intended for the cards to go to their home, to be passed to Bernadette and Harry.

Bernadette said: “They haven’t got my address so send cards to my mums. They were invited to Taylor’s Christening but couldn’t come.

“We did think it was a bit odd not getting cards, but only because they normally send one.”

After hearing that the owners had been found, Karen said: “This is good news.”

The families now plan to meet up to exchange cards.
