A woman has been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated harassment after a child’s grave was desecrated.

Florica Tiru, 45, discovered the cross from her 10-year-old daughter Ana-Maria’s grave dumped upside down in her garden.

The letters RIP were also sprayed on her bedroom window in black paint in the same harrowing attack.

Six days later, a brick was thrown through the window, landing on her bed and shattering glass around the room. Eggs were also thrown at her kitchen window.

The grieving mother said she is now too scared to leave her flat in Clover Court, Willesborough, alone following the two horrifying incidents.

She said: “I can’t take any more. My nerves are at their limit. I’m scared for my life. I’m scared they will hurt me. I want something to be done so I can feel safe.”

The first attack took place on Thursday, January 15. Miss Tiru was at home when a neighbour knocked on her door at about 7pm and asked if she’d seen what was outside.

She discovered the wooden cross, which had been taken from her disabled daughter Ana-Maria’s grave, as well as the graffiti.

Miss Tiru said: “What hurts me the most is that someone took my daughter’s cross from her grave and brought it here. It was in the ground upside down."

Then, on Wednesday, January 21, Miss Tiru, who was in her living room, was woken when a brick came through the same window that had been sprayed, landing on her bed.

Miss Tiru, who lives alone, moved to the UK from Romania 11 years ago.

Her daughter, Ana-Maria, who was born with cerebral palsy, died aged 10 in 2010.

She has been released on bail until Wednesday, February 4, while officers make further inquiries.
