Police arrest man near Victoria Park in Ashford

A man has been arrested after police stopped a person who was “arousing suspicion” near a park.
The suspect, a man in his 30s, was detained by officers close to Victoria Park, Ashford shortly before 5pm last night (October 9).
One police car was pictured on the green, near a row of apartment buildings in front of Hillbrow Lane.
A spokesman for police said: “Proactive patrols stopped and searched a person who had aroused suspicion near to Victoria Park in Ashford, just after 4.50pm on Wednesday.
“A local man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting and an investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.”
One onlooker alleged a man's bag was also taken away during the incident.
