Ashford Carnival has been saved.
After months of uncertainty and fear that the annual pageant would be no more following the retirement of long-time organisers Brenda and Terry Dickinson, Singleton couple Mike and Amanda Chappell have come forward to save the day.
The carnival is now scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 12.
Viv Kenny, town centre manager, said: "Mike and Amanda are no strangers to the carnival and community events, being part of the Singleton Giant Association.
"The aim of the giant is to encourage people to take ownership and pride in their community and they would like to apply this to the carnival.
"They hope that this year’s parade will be able to include some of the other Kent giants alongside the traditional floats and carnival queens from neighbouring towns."
Although the carnival has been saved, sponsors are urgently needed.
Ms Kenny said: "There is an urgent need to raise £1,500 very quickly to cover the insurance needed for the event and to fund publicity material which will ensure its success.
"The Ashford Town Centre Partnership will continue to undertake the administration for the carnival and there are already a number of entrants registered.
"If you would like to showcase your group or organisation, then Ashford Carnival needs you.
"From schools, bands, stiltwalkers, dance troupes, twirlers, Brownies, girl guides, cubs, scouts - all would be welcome."
