A young Ashford man has been jailed for six years after sexually abusing two children.

Cody Hinkley, 21, abused one youngster and attempted to rape another, Canterbury Crown Court heard.

His barrister Richard Barton told Canterbury Crown Court that Hinkley (pictured right) "didn't fit the profile of a sex offender".

But the court heard Hinkley, of Sussex Avenue, received a police caution for performing a sex act in a public skate park in 2011.

The court heard the attacks happened some years ago and Hinkley admitted five sex offences after being confronted by the accusations.

Judge Adele Williams said it was to his credit that he admitted the offences immediately.

After being confronted by police, Hinkley put his head in his hands and told them: "Everything they (his victims) say is true. I did do that."

But the judge added: "However, I have no doubt whatsoever that your conduct has had a profound effect on your victims and there will be long-term effects."

Hinkley will also remain on the sex offenders' register for life and he is subjected to a sex offenders' prevention order that will also last indefinitely.

After the hearing, a Kent Police spokesman said: "The circumstances of any offence of this nature is always harrowing, however this case shows that no matter how long ago or recent any allegation of sexual abuse is, it will always be treated seriously by the police and we will always take the concerns of any victim into account."
