Ashford man dies on rail line

A 44-year-old man from Ashford died after being struck by a train on a railway line in Canterbury yesterday.
The incident happened at Whitehall Road on the line from Canterbury West station at 11.49am on Monday.
Trains on both sides of the line were halted as officers from British Transport Police carried out an investigations.
They are not treating the death as suspicious.
Police spokesman Lex Oliver said: “BTP officers worked alongside Kent Police and paramedics from the local ambulance service.”
It is not known how the person, who has yet to be named, came to be on the line.
The train involved was the 11.04am Margate to Charing Cross rail service.
A file will be prepared for the coroner.
