The owner of an 'immaculate' Audi has made a handwritten sign in a bid to track down a van driver who wrote off his car in a hit-and-run.
Charles Murray-Roscoe's A3 model was in his designated space outside the front of his house in Ashford when it got hit by a white Ford Transit driving past.
The Kingsnorth resident says his insurance company has confirmed the car is beyond economical repair, deeming it a write-off.
He has now made two placards alerting passing drivers to the incident, which happened on Wednesday afternoon in Poppy Mead.
"I couldn't believe it," he said.
"The whole rear bumper was up in the air; it looked like the thing had been in a major collision.
"The insurance company says it's about £3,000 worth of damage.
"It's an Audi A3 Sport and was in beautiful, immaculate condition and it's now been very kindly destroyed and written off by this individual."
Mr Murray-Roscoe – who has reported the damage to police – was alerted to the incident by his neighbour.
"I just got back from the supermarket and I was unloading the groceries until my neighbour knocked on the window," he said.
"Quite a large white Ford Transit van was just passing by and pulled in, taking the rear bumper and wing off my car.
"It all happened so fast that no one caught the number plate.
"I've now made two placards and I'm asking people to tell me if they've seen anything."
The sign reads: "Hit and run. Wed 13th July at 5.10pm. White transit van with black bottom trim – wrote off our vehicle without stopping. Value of damage estimated £3,000. Can witnesses come forward to help in finding the hit and run driver" and has Mr Murray-Roscoe's telephone number attached.
The antiques dealer added: "The insurance company told me that this is the day and age that we're living in at the moment, that people don't care about anything else apart from themselves."
"I think I'm going to have to cancel my holiday..."
He thinks the issue is that no one wants to give way on the road he lives on.
"They charge down the road," he said.
"People automatically put their foot down when they see someone coming in the other direction."
If the 30mph speed limit is reduced, Mr Murray-Roscoe says he doesn't think people would respect it.
He was meant to be going to Paris on the Eurotunnel soon but is now fearing that he will have to cancel his trip because he no longer has a car.
"I've booked travel and the hotel, but I think I'm going to have to cancel the holiday because I don't have a car to go in."
