A bakery chain has shut two of its Kent stores less than two years after setting up shop.

Warrens Bakery, which claims to be the oldest Cornish pasty-maker in the world, now has just one remaining outlet in the county as a result of the closures.

The Ashford branch in County Square and the Canterbury unit in Burgate, near to the Cathedral entrance, are the pair to have faced the chop.

It leaves the original Canterbury bakery in St Dunstan's as the sole remaining store in Kent.

The 160-year-old firm has completed a string of closures in recent months across the country.

It made redundancies prior to the Covid-19 pandemic last year - blaming Brexit uncertainty as one of the main causes.

But with the financial woes of lockdown, more closures have followed.

The Burgate branch in Canterbury has been stripped back and all signage has been removed. It is now back on the market to be rented out.

Warrens Bakery has been approached for comment.
