Bomb disposal squad attends suspicious package in tree in Turner Close, Ashford

A bomb disposal squad descended on a residential street yesterday after a suspicious package was found in a tree.
The object - unidentified as of yet - was found alight in Turner Close, Ashford at 11.45pm yesterday.
A police spokeswoman said: "A member of the public discovered a small suspicious looking object on fire in a tree outside the window of a property.
"Officers attended where there were no reported injuries and the fire had been extinguished.
"Experts from the Ministry of Defence Explosive Ordnance Disposal were called to assess the item, which was found to be safe and seized for forensic opportunities.
"Officers remain in the area carrying out enquiries and reviewing CCTV to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident."
Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in Turner Close or an alleyway that leads into the street has been asked to call the East Kent appeal line on 01843 222289 quoting reference 04-1557.
The MOD declined to comment, noting it is an ongoing investigation.
