There were long delays on the M20 and surrounding roads after a lorry broke down and blocked the carriageway.
Motorists were forced to divert off the motorway at Ashford due to the blockage in the Operation Brock contraflow.
Traffic was held for around half an hour, with residual delays spanning back for five miles after the vehicle was cleared.
There was also congestion on the A20 reaching back as far as Charing as motorists try and avoid the delays.
Problems are also ongoing towards Dover, where issues with two P&O ships caused two-hour delays to ferry services.
The issues have seen the Dover TAP implemented on the A20 at Aycliffe.
This is to prevent Port bound traffic from disrupting the local road network and the A20 through Dover town.
