Chat show host Paul O'Grady is reported to have spent £8,000 on chemotherapy treatment for his dog.

The comic was told last year his pet Olga had just 18 months to live.

But the TV star, from Aldington near Ashford, decided he wasn't going to take the prognosis lying down - and has invested in an intensive course of chemotherapy for cairn terrier Olga.

Paul — who hosts ITV’s For The Love Of Dogs from Battersea Dogs Home — told The Sun newspaper: “She has had her kidney out and is now on chemo.”

The star, who has had several heart attacks and stents fitted to keep the blood flowing, said the dog's operation cost twice as much as to give him a stent.

He added: “But I don’t care what it costs as I would sell my house to pay for it.”

It's believed the treatment has been a success.
