An animal park in Kent has paid tribute to one of its African cheetahs after it was put down following a reported ongoing neurological condition.
Big Cat Sanctuary in Smarden in Ashford announced the death of 12-year-old Murphy on its Twitter feed.
In a moving post, keepers remembered his distinctive chirping which would draw attention from his other big cat friends.
He was also known for sleeping in the same spot in his enclosure - so much so the grass was worn down.
Writing beneath the montage of images and videos, a spokesman said: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Murphy.
"Murphy was put to sleep due to an ongoing battle with a neurological condition.
"Murphy preferred his own company but still held a special place in our hearts. He would often chirp to the other cheetah boys to say hello.
"Murphy was also known for his dreadlocks and gentleness.
"Murphy had a favourite spot in his enclosure to sleep and roll about. The grass has been worn down because he was there so much.
"An amazing ambassador for cheetahs globally, Murphy will be sorely missed.
"Goodnight, Murphy. We will remember you."
