A heartbroken young child had his new bike stolen two days after he got it.

Nine-year-old Callum Lingham's yellow BMX Pro was taken from a locked bike shed near his home in Station Road, Ashford, on Tuesday night.

His dad, Ian, had only bought the new cycle for him two days earlier off eBay.

Mr Lingham said: "The bike was taken sometime between 4pm on Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

"It is bright yellow - if people see it, they'll know it."

Mum Angela Sexton reported the theft to the police yesterday.

She added: "Callum has flexible joints and sometimes finds it difficult to walk. He finds it much easier on a bike."

This is not the first bike that has been stolen from the family. Last month, thieves took another bike from the same shed.

Mr Lingham continued: "We bought Callum a bike earlier this year for his birthday but it was taken about a month ago.

"We put a chain around the new bike but the thieves must have broken through that this time too.

"I reckon they thought they managed to get away with the first one, so tried their luck again."

St Mary's Primary School pupil Callum added: "I'm really really angry that someone took my bike. My first one was red with a red seat and that was taken. And now someone has taken my yellow one."

The family are now appealing for the return of the bike - which they believe it worth around £150.

Mr Lingham added: "If they have a conscience they'll bring it back. Or if anyone has been offered a yellow bike we would urge them to contact the police."
