HMS Coastguard were called to Folkestone Harbour after a "body" was spotted in the sea.
A member of the public reported the possible body seen in the water at 7.10am this morning.
Folkestone Coastguard attended the scene and spoke to the caller before the object floating in the sea was identified as a small boat moored outside the harbour.
A harbour employee also confirmed it was a regular mooring used by one of the fishing boats to allow them to return at low tide.
A spokesman for HMS Coastguard said: "We did send somebody down to have a look down there but nothing was found.
"It was a false alert with good intent. It didn't turn out to be body at all."
