M20 crash at Ashford and safety concerns for vehicle between Hythe and Ashford cause rush hour traffic delays
11:00, 13 January 2016
Rush hour traffic was affected after two incidents on the M20 this morning.
Police were called to what they said were “safety concerns” regarding a vehicle driving on the Londonbound carriageway between junctions 11 and 10 at 7.07am.
At one point there were three cars stationary in the centre lane – none of them police vehicles – and drivers had to change lanes to avoid them.
Police officers attended and a car was moved onto the hard shoulder.
A police spokesman said that lane one of the carriageway was closed for public safety and paramedics were also called to treat a 50-year-old man.
A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance said they received a call to "reports a man in a car needed medical attention".
They added: "We dispatched an ambulance and treated the patient at the scene but he did not require hospital treatment."
In a separate incident, a van ended up facing the wrong way on the M20 following a two-vehicle collision.
It happened at 6.36am between junctions 9 and 10 coastbound.
Police say they were called to a report of a traffic hazard on the hard shoulder. It was reported that a van was facing the wrong way following an earlier accident.
The van was turned around on the hard shoulder. There are no reports of any injuries.
