A driver who fled from his car following a high speed chase involving a police helicopter is being hunted by officers.
Police started pursuing a silver Ford Focus in Ashford after the driver failed to stop in Magazine Road.
They called in the helicopter to help, but ended the pursuit in Canterbury Road, Kennington, amid concern for other motorists.
A few minutes later, the Ford was found abandoned in George Williams Way on the Little Burton housing estate.
A witness said she saw the car travelling at high speed during the chase, which happened at about 7.30pm on Monday.
"It was being driven recklessly along Canterbury Road and then cut across onto the wrong side of the road and turned into Little Burton," she said.
"He lost control of the car there, completely hitting the side of the verge and kerb where the tyre blew, which flattened the front passenger and rear tyres.
"Then he jumped out and pulled at the rear door, but when he could not open it he then ran up into the back of the houses.
"The police did not catch him, but we told them he was trying to get something off the back seat.
"Other people said they had seen him running between the houses."
Police say inquiries are ongoing and officers would like to hear from anyone with information.
Motorists travelling along Canterbury Road at the time who may have dashcam footage of the pursuit should call police on 01843 222289, quoting reference 24-1455.
