Kennington resident Ted Prangnell had been queuing for traffic with his wife when they witnessed the second crash in Faversham Road.

"We heard a screeching noise coming from the already crashed car as it went down Faversham Road, it was extremely loud," he explained.

"We wonder if, in the case of the first crash the bodywork and its front wheels were distorted and rubbing at high pitch as the black car went past us.

"The silver Ford crashed into a blue car. We found ourselves immediately behind the crashed cars and endeavoured to get away from the dangerous spot."

Following the crash, the driver of the silver Ford reportedly tried to leave the scene, but was captured and cable-tied by members of the public.

A statement on Twitter from Kent Police Ashford said the man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drink and drugs, failing to provide a sample, driving with no insurance and no licence.

A police spokesman said: "At around 6pm yesterday, a vehicle is reported to have been in collision with a car in Canterbury Road, Kennington.

"Shortly before the collision, the suspect vehicle is also said to have failed to stop at the scene of collisions with two other cars.

"The alleged driver of the offending vehicle was stopped by members of the public and arrested by Kent Police on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drink or drugs, driving without insurance and failing to provide a breath test.

"The 25-year-old man, from Ashford, remains in custody as enquiries continue".
