ASHFORD firefighters were busy overnight tackling two separate blazes. Just after midnight they were called to the Old Railway Works in Newtown Road where eight pumps and more than 50 personnel fought an industrial unit fire in a paint spraying depot. After it was brought under control investigations into the cause were launched.
Just after 1.30am six appliances and a turntable ladder with 30 firefighters were at Chart Motors in High Street, Great Chart. A blaze that broke out in a single-storey garage workshop was threatening the attached house and petrol pumps on the forecourt. This morning crews were still damping down the fire and the cause of the incident is also under investigation.
