Fire crews were called to a blaze in a Wye restaurant, at the Joshan of Wye.

Six fire engines raced to the high street Indian at 2.30pm today and are still at the scene.

Teams used a fog spike and compressed air foam system to get the 'well-developed' fire at the two-storey building under control.

It is not yet known if anyone is injured or how the blaze started.

One eyewitness, Steve Dagys, 18, who lives in the village, said he can see lots of smoke coming from the building.

He said: "There are heaps of people, so far four fire trucks."

Kent Police confirmed officers are in attendance helping the fire service and there are road closures in place.

Reporter at the scene, Aidan Barlow, said: "There are a crowd of people watching from behind the cordon, probably about 30 to 40.

"I can see at least six fire engines and the whole village is at a standstill. There are two police cars diverting traffic.

"There are houses and businesses quite close to it so residents are a bit scared."

The fire is believed to be in the roof of the restaurant and thought to be at the back of the building.

Firefighters are on the roof taking tiles off and throwing them on the ground to get a jet in.

Drivers have been asked to avoid the area.
