Firefighters were called to Great Chart on Thursday evening after a van caught alight.
The vehicle's owner was driving along Etchden Road at around 7.10pm when they smelt burning and pulled over.
They called 999 after lifting the bonnet and realising the engine was on fire. Crews spent around 30 minutes at the scene.
The police were also called to assist and helped remove the vehicle, which was obstructing the road.
