Fire crews tackled a bin alight in Victoria Park last night.
Emergency crews were called by joggers to the fire in the park around 7.30pm, which they believe was started by a carelessly discarded cigarette.
They sent one appliance to the scene and were able to put out the fire with a bucket of water.
A fire spokesman said: "We just want people to be careful when discarding cigarettes.
"If you put them in the bin, it can set it alight so make sure cigarettes are fully extinguished before you throw them in."
