Firefighters were called to a fire at a village pub this morning where they found flames roaring out of the chimney.
One fire engine was sent to the Smarden pub - believed to be The Flying Horse - around 9.40am.
The team spent around an hour at the blaze, fighting the huge flames from the roof.
A spokesman for the fire service said: "They made an initial attack on the fire from the hearth and then used a roof ladder to fight the fire from the roof with a hose reel.
"Small tools were used to remove some of the roof covering to expose the adjoining roof structure and a thermal imaging camera used to check for fire spread."
