Five arrested on suspicion of arson after fire in the Stockbury Valley area

Four men and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of arson, as a man remains in hospital with leg injuries.

A mobile home was set alight in the Stockbury Valley area early yesterday morning, causing extensive damage.

Police investigating descended on Stanhope Road in Ashford yesterday evening.

A number of vehicles were also set on fire and there were also reports that a person was seen with a weapon.

The A249 was closed between the Stockbury roundabout and M20 at Maidstone for several hours while officers carried out searches.

There was also a police presence in Stanhope Road yesterday at about 7pm while police made further enquiries in connection to the incident.

An eyewitness reported seeing a large number police in the area, including armed officers and police dogs.

At least 20-30 residents had come out their homes to watch what was going on, it is reported.

Police are continuing to investigate.
