American fast food restaurant Five Guys will open at a popular shopping centre this year.

The chain, known for its burgers, hot dogs, and French fries, will open its doors at the Ashford Designer Outlet in the autumn, bosses confirmed today.

Five Guys offers customers the chance to customise their orders, with over 250,000 possible topping combinations.

According to its website, if you were to eat at Five Guys once a day, it would take you 684 years to try all the different burger and topping combinations.

It also offers milkshakes and breakfast.

There are three other Five Guys in Kent, in Canterbury, Maidstone and at Bluewater shopping complex.

The Ashford Designer Outlet, in Kimberley Way, is currently undergoing a £90million expansion - which will see it add 50 more stores, more restaurants and a community area to its offer.

The extension is set to be complete by September 2019

Five Guys will be based at the new Food Piazza, and will be joined by a host of other restaurants that are expected to be announced in the coming months.

The opening of the new 4,500 sq ft restaurant will also bring more job opportunities to the area.

Peter Corr, centre manager, said: "We are thrilled to have worked in partnership with Ashford Borough Council to welcome Five Guys to McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Ashford later this year.

"The globally recognised brand strengthens our existing offering in the Food Piazza and ensures there is something to suit every guest whilst enriching the overall offering for the residents of Ashford."

It is an exciting time at the Designer Outlet, which opened its world class children's play area last week.

The £400,000 Garden-of-England themed playground features seven-metre high Robinia tree house - one of the UK’s tallest of its kind - a slide, climbing frames and see-saws.

Coffee shop Pret also opened at the mall earlier this month, as did Japanese restaurant YO! Sushi.

Outlet bosses say once the extension is complete in the autumn, 50 new brands will be added to the centre, creating 500 new jobs.

The centre will also play host to Europe’s largest living wall - the £1.5m plant installation will become the centrepiece of the centre’s expansion.

Leader of Ashford Borough Council Cllr Gerry Clarkson (Con) said: "I’m delighted to see that another of the Council’s Big 8 projects is approaching completion.

"Like Ashford College, the Elwick Place cinema and leisure complex, and the first phase of the Commercial Quarter, the Designer Outlet expansion is set to play a major part in helping to transform the fortunes of the area."
