Flood alert issued by the Environment Agency for Upper River Stour in Ashford after heavy rain

A flood alert has been issued in a Kent town following heavy rainfall.
The Environment Agency put out the warning for the Upper River Stour overnight, informing residents in Ashford to be prepared for possible flooding.
The authority says it could affect communities on the Great Stour from Charing Heath to the A2070 including Ashford, communities on the East Stour, and those on the Whitewater and Ruckinge Dykes and the Aylesford Stream.
This stretches from Shadoxhurst to Bromley Green, Stanford and Stowting.
People are being warned to avoid using low-lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding.
The Met Office says rain will continue to fall in Ashford throughout the morning but should clear up in the early afternoon.
Elsewhere in Kent, a coastal flood alert is still in place on the Isle of Sheppey and the north coast from Kemsley to Seasalter.
It was issued yesterday and covers Sheerness, Minster, Queenborough, Leysdown on Sea, Sittingbourne and Faversham.
