A village garden centre advertised at £1m has changed hands, marking the new owners' fourth outlet in the county.

Grovewell - which already has sites in Tenterden, Canterbury and Folkestone - has taken on Wyevale's Hamstreet Garden Centre.

The eight-acre site outside Ashford contains a number of buildings and a cafe.

All staff will be kept on following the transition period, and the store's operations have not been affected since the announcement earlier this month.

Edward Boult, director of Grovewell Garden Centres, said: "We are extremely pleased and excited to add Hamstreet to our family of centres.

"We have inherited a fantastic and supportive team and we are very much looking forward to expanding and upgrading the site over the next few years."

Tim Law, deputy manager of the Tenterden site, is assisting with the switch and says Grovewell has plans to upgrade and modernise the site.

He said: "We aim to build on the success and reputation of Tenterden, Canterbury and Folkestone Garden Centres.

"We’ve been overwhelmed by the support from staff and locals so far and I’m really looking forward to seeing the centre develop."

The Willesborough Wyevale closed in January before it was torn down to make way for the multi-million pound junction 10a development.
