12:40, 07 July 2017

The headteacher of Ashford Prep School is leaving today after 17 years at the school, but not before he received a huge surprise from his pupils.

Richard Yeates, who lives onsite at the Headmaster's House, was welcomed into the school this morning with a special guard of honour.

More than 300 pupils, staff and parents came in early and made sure to keep extra quiet as they lined the school path.

As Mr Yeates approached the school, they then erupted into cheers and applause to make sure the headteacher received the big send-off he deserved.

The guard of honour was a complete surprise to Mr Yeates and he will be spending his last afternoon at the school with more celebrations.
