How's this for a heavy workload? A fencing firm has unveiled gargantuan new gates with posts capable of bearing the weight of a double-decker bus.
Jacksons Fencing manufactured the 14-metre-long swing gates at its base in the village of Stowting Common in a bid to boost security at the Eurotunnel site in France.
The galvanised steel gates weigh in at a total of 3,200kg and stands four metres tall, while the hydraulic gate posts can lift a total of 19 tonnes.
They open and close within a minute, and are protected with powder-coated white paint to prevent any corrosion of the steel.
It took teams four hours to secure the gates and posts in place and company chief executive Peter Jackson said it was one of the largest his firm had ever made.
Company chief executive Peter Jackson said : “While we have designed and manufactured larger sliding gates, the sheer size, operating environment and performance requirements of these gates presented a few challenges, especially given the short deadline which needed to be met.
"I’m delighted and proud that the teams here and in France proved that they had the flexibility and determination to rise to this exacting challenge."
