Immigration enforcement officers took to the streets of Ashford to inspect kitchens and restaurants in the town centre.

The high-vis clad officers searched premises in New Rents, the High Street, and in North Street at 11am this morning.

The teams were split into groups, with officers searching The Little Raj and the Paper Duck World Buffet in North Street, the Aji Japanese restaurant and Super Pizza takeaway in New Rents, and The Indian Diner in the Lower High Street.

Photographer Andy Clark snapped the town centre visits today. A Home Office spokesman said it was part of a multi-agency operation, but said no immigration-led action followed the visits.

The spokesman added the operation was led by Kent Police, and is believed to have been focusing on licensing issues.

Meanwhile police officers were also present in the town centre at the same time for an unrelated matter.

They arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of theft on April 23, where it is believed he stole from Xpress Games in Chapel Mews behind the former Merchant Chandler store.

Police spokesman Jon Green confirmed the man was being held in custody after he was arrested today on a visit to Betfred in Bank Street. Inquiries are now ongoing.
