A section of the M20 has been closed in both directions after a woman was seen injured on the roadside.
Police were called to the scene just before 6.50am after the pedestrian was discovered near the London-bound carriageway.
Part of the motorway was later sealed off between Junction 8 near Maidstone and Junction 9 in Ashford in order for the air ambulance to attend.
Paramedics were also at the scene.
A police spokesman has confirmed the woman has been taken to hospital and that officers are investigating to establish the circumstances of the incident.
Kent County Council's highways team is recommending motorists seek alternative routes via the A20.
Traffic is being diverted off the motorway at Junction 9.
