A man has died after being hit by a truck next to Ashford's post-Brexit lorry park.
Police have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by careless driving following the incident yesterday evening.
It is believed the victim was a passenger in the articulated lorry and had got out to help while the vehicle manoeuvred near a railway bridge in Cheeseman's Green Lane, Sevington.
Officers believe the lorry collided with the man, who was in his 50s, before the driver and the man continued their journey.
The extent of the man's injuries then became apparent and emergency services were called, but the man later died from his injuries.
The incident happened between 7pm and 8.30pm and police have now launched an investigation.
The HGV involved is described as a white articulated lorry with blue lettering on the side.
Police say the 28-year-old remains in custody.
The railway crossing in Cheeseman's Green Lane is next to the 66-acre post-Brexit lorry park which is currently under construction.
Anyone who saw the lorry in the area on the evening, or who has CCTV or dashcam footage which may assist the investigation, is urged to call the serious collision investigation unit on 01622 798538 or email sciu.td@kent.police.uk quoting reference HW/DH/111/20.
