A man has been charged after reportedly spitting at police officers after being arrested at a hospital.
Jonathon Newman was arrested following a report of threatening and abusive behaviour at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.
Officers called to the scene at around 2.30pm on Wednesday found that the suspect was carrying a lock knife after searching him.
Newman's behaviour reportedly escalated once he was taken into custody, where he is alleged to have thrown his face covering at an officer and spat towards two others.
He also reportedly damaged a fire alarm during the incident.
The 23-year-old, of Station Road East in Canterbury, has since been charged with a public order offence, possession of a knife, criminal damage and three counts relating to assaults on emergency workers.
He appeared before Folkestone Magistrates' Court on Friday and was remanded in custody to appear again on Thursday, March 25.
