Specialist woodcarver ‘Chainsaw Dave’ has created this eye-catching bench sculpture using his trademark power tool.
Dave Lucas spent five days perfecting his dormouse masterpiece which is now on display at Ashford’s new Repton Park housing development.
Developer Taylor Wimpey commissioned expert wood carving firm Woodland Centre to create a series of outdoor sculptures for residents at Repton Park.
The Sussex-based company came up with the dormouse bench, a mushroom-shaped table and a log bench.
Chainsaw Dave said: “The dormouse idea came about when we met with Taylor Wimpey’s project manager at Repton Park to discuss ideas.
“I had never carved a dormouse before and it struck me as an interesting sculpture.
“I spent four or five days carving the bench, which was a really enjoyable project and I was very pleased with the result. I hope it is well received by everyone at Repton Park.”
Jason Stokes, Taylor Wimpey’s regional sales and marketing director, said: “We wanted to commission a really interesting sculpture which also had the practical use as a seat, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the finished dormouse bench – it is an eye-catching piece and a real talking point.”
