'Hissing' caterpillar found in Mersham
16:30, 14 August 2017
A family from Mersham have been left puzzled after finding a mysterious caterpillar in their back garden.
Colleen Jeffery found the insect, which 'hissed' at her, earlier this afternoon.
She said: "I was sitting out in the garden, with the kids playing in their paddling pool, and just saw it crawling across the patio.
"I was interested to see what it was so I picked it up but then it opened its mouth like a snake and hissed at me!"
"I've never seen anything like it before! It's the shape of a caterpillar, and looks like one, but I've haven't seen one look like this.
"It's about two inches long, maybe a bit bigger, with weird markings on its back and its head."
