Neighbours claim they will suffer if 80 The Street, in Kennington, Ashford, is torn down and new homes are built on the land

Nearly 100 objections have been made to a planning application that seeks to demolish a house in Kennington and build six new ones in its place.

In total, 164 neighbours were consulted on the proposal, put forward by Chris Barron of Chailey Homes, based in East Grinstead, West Sussex.

If approved, it will see 80 The Street knocked down.

Plans includes constructing three-storey homes – one three-bedroom and five four-bedroom – on the land, and adding a further 10 parking spaces to the existing two.

However, objectors say the new houses will have a huge impact on bordering properties, are too big and will ruin the appearance of the area.

There are also concerns over parking, safety and the narrow access onto The Street.

"I once had to back up past six cars to let someone through. If a child had been crossing behind me I would not have seen them. To build more houses with an extra entrance road will only add to the mayhem and the danger.” - Pamela Sampson

Pamela Sampson, of St Mary’s Green, Kennington, said: “Both my partner and I strongly object to this application, as we did the last time.

“The Street is busy enough as it is, especially at school drop-off and pick-up times. The parking is already extremely dangerous.

David Hogbin, of Tritton Fields, said: “We strongly object to the planning application. We feel this would have a detrimental effect to the safety of all users of The Street.”

He added that a new traffic survey should be carried out and his main concern is safety as so many lorries will try and squeeze into the entrance of the work site.

The application has received some support from groups and individuals, including officers carrying out tree, reptile and amphibian surveys.

This is not the first time developers have attempted to build on the Little Acres site.

In 2013, Skillcrown Homes, who are based in Bromley, applied for permission to demolish the same property and also build six homes in its place.

They withdrew, however, after ABC members requested an ecological survey and more than 100 residents objected to the plans.

A previous application in 2010 to build 11 homes on the site was also rejected by ABC.

A date for the application to be discussed by the planning committee at Ashford Borough Council has yet to be set.
