Councillors are not convinced in Highways England's colour choice for a "rather green" bridge which has been built over the M20.

The elected officials called into question the design of a new footbridge outside Ashford at a joint transportation board on Tuesday.

Chair of the meeting at Ashford Borough Council, Cllr Paul Bartlett (Con) said: "I see the bridge has gone up with its very splendid looks but it is also very green.

"I guess that's it, isn't it? Do you plan to paint it a more amenable colour?

"I know it is all in the eye of the beholder but it is rather green."

The Kingsford Street footbridge, which is designed for pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians, was installed last month and set to open next summer.

During its construction, the M20 was closed overnight.

The motorway will be closed again throughout two weekends in January to install the steelwork for the bridges which will form the new junction 10a.

No vehicles will be allowed through from Friday, January 11 at 10pm to Monday, January 14 at 6am or January 25 to 28 over the same time period.
