The first of the RNLI’s newest class of lifeboat will arrive at the Dungeness station today.
The Morrell, a Shannon class, is scheduled to sail in at 1pm.
It replaces the Dungeness RNLI’s current Mersey class boat Pride and Spirit.
It is the first RNLI all-weather lifeboat to be powered by water jets instead of propellers, making it the most all-weather lifeboat in the charity’s fleet.
The vessel’s water jets make it more manoeuvrable and easier to get to casualties in hard-to-reach places and shallow water.
Capable of 25 knots, the Shannon is 50% faster than the lifeboats it will replace – meaning casualties can be rescued more quickly.
