A pensioner was robbed of his groceries and had money stolen in a daylight attack in a town centre.

The man, who is in his 70s, was targeted while walking through Taylor’s Passage, an alleyway that leads to Ashford's high street, at 2.45pm on Monday.

The suspects made off with the victim's bag which contained a bank card and groceries.

Afterwards, the victim also noted money had gone missing from his bank account.

Two 53-year-old men have since been charged in connection with the crime.

Peter Goldfinch, of Bushy Royds, Ashford, and John Henderson, of no fixed address, were arrested and each charged with one count of robbery yesterday.

The two men remain in custody and are due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court today via virtual link.
