A warning has been issued by police after an elderly victim had cash stolen during a distraction burglary.

The incident, which took place in Little Chequers, Wye, saw a man knock on the door of a pensioner's home and claim he was there to check the water supply.

The home owner was asked to step outside to discuss where pipes would be fitted in the garden, and ended up speaking to the man for around 30 minutes before he left.

But when she went back inside she noticed money had been taken and believes a second person could have entered the house whilst she was outside.

Kent Police is now investigating and hoping to identify the bogus caller.

Detectives are asking witnesses or anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area to get in touch.

They also want to warn residents to be vigilant, look out for neighbours and be aware of thieves who use distraction techniques to carry out crime.
