Police have arrested an 18-year-old from Ashford on suspicion of GBH after a man was found with serious injuries in Mersham.

He is the third man to be arrested in connection with the suspected attack.

A 21-year-old man from Ashford and a 22-year-old man from Maidstone were arrested just days after Folkestone man Gary Langham was found in Bower Road.

Mr Langham was discovered unconscious by a tractor driver at around 7am on Sunday, August 23 and rushed to a London hospital.

His head injuries were described as critical and he is still in hospital in a serious, but stable condition.

Detective Sergeant Matt Smith said the investigation was very much ongoing and that he is still pursuing several lines of enquiry.

He said: "We particularly want to hear from anyone who may have seen a small dark coloured hatchback in the Mersham area on the morning of 23 August.

"We are also keen to hear from anyone who may have found a mobile phone in the Mersham area at any time from 23 August onwards as we believe the victim may have lost his mobile phone shortly before the incident. It could hold vital clues as to what happened that night.

"Although the victim’s condition has improved he remains seriously ill in hospital. I hope the public will help provide answers for him and his family."

The 18-year-old has been released on bail until October 28 while enquiries continue.

The 21-year-old and 22-year-old remain on police bail until November 27.
