Appeal for information after five burglaries across East Kent

Police are appealing for information as part of an investigation into five burglaries reported across Sturry, Dover, Folkestone and Ashford.

The first reported incident took place on Tuesday, April 3, between 8-9pm jewellery was reported stolen following a break-in at a property in McCarthy Avenue in Sturry.

Similarly, on Thursday, April 5, a house was burgled in Park Avenue, Dover between midday and 1.15pm before two houses were reportedly targeted in Greystones, Ashford between 4.30 - 5.30pm.

Another burglary took place in Fremantle Road, Folkestone, between 5.15pm and 5.40pm yesterday.

In all five cases jewellery was reported stolen.

Detective Constable Jo Heard said: "We are really keen to hear from witnesses and review any dash cam footage that may have been captured in these specific roads at the times stated.

"We would ask anyone with dash cam footage or information to call us as soon as possible on 01843 222289 or Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting reference number 05-0966."

Officers are also reminding residents of the steps they can take to protect their homes from burglars who target expensive jewellery and gold, they include:

- Lock windows, side gates and garages

- Turn on burglar alarms

- Insure valuables

- Consider marking valuables to assist with identification

- Be careful what you post online and on social media regarding valuables and your movements

- Use timers for internal lighting, and arrange for people to visit the property while you are away can be good ways of making it look like your property is not empty

- Arrange for people to collect mail while you are away

- Putting bins away so they can’t be used to climb on

- Register important items for free at www.immobilise.com to help us return stolen items if they are recovered.
