A Poundstretcher worker had to shelter from a gang of youths in a cupboard until police arrived.
Officers were called to a disturbance in the Park Mall shopping centre in Ashford just after 12.30pm.
A group of up to four boys in their late teens entered the store and threatened the member of staff.
The worker was kept in a cupboard until two police officers arrived.
They were joined by Ashford Borough Council enforcement officers and Park Mall security staff.
It is understood the boys have been banned from the store.
A police spokesman confirmed officers attended and spoke to the people at the scene, but no offences were committed.
