A Sea Cadet from Ashford who died when he fell from a ship's rigging was remembered in prayers at Rochester Cathedral.
A special mention was made of Jonathan Martin, 14, at a service to mark the 150th anniversary of the cadet movement.
Hundreds of cadets from all over Kent were at the service today, Saturday, which followed a parade through Rochester.
Jonathan, from Shadoxhurst, who died last Sunday, was in Ashford Sea Cadets.
He had been stowing a sail on the Sea Cadets Corps' flagship TS Royalist when he fell into the water at Stokes Bay near Gosport.
Prayers were also said for him and his family by fellow Ashford Sea Cadets when they held a minute’s silence at their twice-weekly meeting on Thursday at their base in Ashford TA Centre in Chart Road.
Jonathan had been in the Sea Cadets for two years and had achieved his sailing and canoeing qualifications.
He was one of 19 cadets on board TS Royalist for a week-long exercise.
An investigation is underway into his death.
