Her Majesty the Queen, Prince Philip, and the Prince of Wales were among the mourners at the funeral of Countess Patricia Mountbatten of Burma in London.
The funeral was held at St Paul’s Church in Knightsbridge, and was also attended by Prince Philip along with the Duke of Kent and his brother Prince Michael of Kent.
The Countess died peacefully at her home in Mersham earlier this month at the age of 93.
She was a friend of the Queen, having served as lady-in-waiting to Her Majesty and also being godmother to Prince Charles.
During the Second World War she was part of the Women’s Royal Naval Service, and met Lord Brabourne in Sri Lanka.
She lost her son Nick and her father in an IRA bomb off the coast of Sligo in Ireland in 1979, and set up the Child Bereavement Charity and Compassionate Friends as a result.
Other charities have also recalled her sterling work and dedication, such as Samaritans and the NSPCC.
She also set up the Women of Kent Luncheon, a charity even held every two years to recognise the contribution of women in the county.
