00:00, 03 September 2013
Police investigating an attempted robbery at two supermarket cash machines believe a sledgehammer may have been used by the raiders.
The two ATMs were taped off outside Tesco, in Moatfield Meadow, Park Farm, yesterday morning.
Kent Police said they were reportedly damaged at just before 4am, but it is not known if any money has been taken.
Shopper Christina Wright said: "Looks like Tesco Park Farm cash point have been raided.
"It has been taped off by police and two cash points had been smashed into where the money comes out."
Police spokesman DC Kane Clifford said: "It is thought the cash machines were damaged by a heavy object, perhaps a sledgehammer and at this stage it is unknown whether any money was taken.
"It is an ongoing investigation and I’d urge anyone with any information to contact police."
