Cats Protection is desperate to find new homes for unwanted cats.

The group, which covers Romney Marsh, Tenterden and Ashford, says the recession is increasing the number of cats being abandoned.

There are more and more homeless cats needing help.

And while many people help the cats they find lurking around their homes looking for food, there is only so much patience for the un-speyed Toms.

A volunteer with Tenterden Cats’ Protection said: “It has gone crazy. We are getting four or five calls a day and we are concerned about what is happening to those cats we cannot help.

“Quite often they are entire Toms [un-speyed] and you can’t have them indoors.

“We’re saying to people just let them sleep in your shed until we can help. We are happy to take, neuter and return cats but people often don’t want them back as they fight with other cats and urinate in doorways."
