Work has begun on introducing parking restrictions in an out-of-town retail park in Ashford.
Ashford Retail Park in Sevington, which includes stores such as Argos, B&M, Dunelm and Smyths toy store, is set to introduce a time limit on parking to prevent misuse of the parking spaces available to customers.
Workmen were spotted at the site last week.
A spokesman for Savills said: “As the managing agent at Ashford Retail Park, Savills can confirm it is aware that parking spaces are being used by people who are not shopping there.
“In response, there are plans to introduce a time limit to ensure shoppers have maximum access to the parking facilities, which will remain free.
“Details of the new time restrictions are being finalised and will be clearly signposted well in advance of being introduced.
“Installation has begun on site but not yet completed.”
The one-way exit out of Barrey Road onto to the A2070 dual carriageway has regularly left customers and Sevington residents waiting more than an hour to leave the site at peak times.
Social media users raised concerns about the new time restrictions and the impact it may have on queuing to get off the site.
Petitions have been launched in recent months to add traffic lights or a roundabout at the junction to ease the congestion, following fears of potential accidents as stationary vehicles join moving traffic at speeds of up to 70mph.
