A riverside path was cordoned off following reports an unexploded wartime object had been found in the water.
Police shut the pathway between Bowens Field and Victoria Road in Ashford following the discovery in the Great Stour.
The object was thought to be an unexploded wartime ordnance.
Officers attended just before 5pm yesterday along with explosives experts from the Ministry of Defence and a cordon was put in place as a precaution.
But upon inspection, the object was found not to be ordnance and the cordon was removed.
KentOnline has asked police exactly what was found.
